Treatment Plan
There are no chemical treatments effective for controlling crown gall. Crown gall can be managed by planting varieties and rootstocks that are tolerant of the disease, by planting on sites that have good air and soil drainage, by covering graft unions over winter to protect from cold damage, by using multiple trunks so that damaged trunks can be replaced and productivity maintained, by renewing damaged trunks on a regular basis, and by utilizing vineyard practices that slows or ceases vegetative growth by veraison.
